Everyone around me seems to be on this bulletproof coffee kick. I was extremely curious when I saw a lot of bloggers posting about it but always do my due diligence before following the diet trends. Here are my thoughts…
I am a big believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I used to skip breakfast thinking it would help me lose weight but it actually did the opposite. Studies have shown that going without food in the morning is likely to increase the production of insulin, which can cause your body to store more fat. Studies also show that missing essential nutrients during breakfast are likely to be compensated for later in the day by overeating leading to weight gain.
Over the past year, breakfast has become my highest calorie meal of my day. You may wonder why I drink smoothies almost every morning and it’s because I’ve realized how easy it is to pack a smoothie with TONS of protein, veggies and fruit which prevents me from having to worry about finding those nutrients from other sources later in the day. Eating a nutrient-rich breakfast will increase energy, improve memory/concentration, encourage weight loss and provide the nutrition needed for your body to function properly.

Let’s compare the bulletproof coffee recipe that bulletproof enthusiasts are replacing their breakfast with to one of my typical morning smoothies:
After looking at the facts, it's clear to me that a nutrient-rich breakfast is way more beneficial that a bulletproof coffee. In my opinion, replacing your most important meal of the day with high amounts of fat is the wrong way to go. Humans were not meant to consume massive amounts of anything, especially not fatty oils.
All I ask is that you make sure you do your research before falling for the fads that tend to be pushed out over social media. I know some people don't use the exact ingredients above & are more healthy about their bulletproof recipe so this may not pertain to you. Once you know the facts, you can decide for yourself what works best for you and your body.
Like I've mentioned before, it's all about balance and not overdoing it. Coffee is a simple part of my life but I much prefer my morning smoothies filled with goodness versus the empty calories. I'll be sticking to my black coffee with a touch of almond milk and cinnamon... cheers y'all!
